Masteka 2 Blows Into Coffs Harbour…

Coffs Harbour attracts the best for many reasons.

The Bureau of Meteorology (www.BOM.com) issued a weather warning for a southerly gale to impact upon our coastline from Tuesday afternoon. The prediction was for winds to increase to 40 knots with rising seas and swell of 3.5 metres. The change in the wind started to make its presence felt in Coffs by about 2:00pm on Tuesday afternoon.

At this time the beautiful Luxury Motor Yacht Masteka 2 was more than 50 nautical miles out to sea and to the north east of Coffs Harbour. Masteka 2 is only 38 metres (122 feet) in length and has a draft of about 2.25M, that means the Skipper has only 3 choices when the notice comes through that the weather is about to turn dirty.

On this part of the east coast of Australia when the weather turns bad the only accessible ports are either Moreton Bay in Queensland's SE or Coffs Harbour on the Mid Northcoast of NSW. Alternatively there is the unenviable option of trying to outrun the storm and then riding it out in the open ocean waters.

Wind storm on the ocean.

As much as I would love to be one of the crew onboard Masteka 2, I am glad I was not the Skipper at this time.

Masteka 2 was heading for Coffs Harbour and eventually dropped anchor in the sheltered waters of our outer harbour on Tuesday evening just before 8:00pm.

I watched as she came into port and the Skipper looked for a secure anchorage and she settled in for the night. In the dark I forgot about the storm and just watched the image before me. She looked splendid with all her deck lights on plus the brilliance of some special underwater lighting effects that illuminated her majestic aft portions.

I could not help but dream how special it would be to be on board Masteka 2 as it cruised to the crystal clear tropical waters of the South Pacific. Enjoying the waters of a coral atoll where the visibility into the water is limitless and the marine life is endless.

Oh where would I be without my dreams?

Thank you Coffs Harbour, because of your unique harbour and landform I am now watching another impressive visitor to our shores.

Welcome Masteka 2, it is now Saturday and you are still here.  Trying to keep safe and away from the remaining effects of the storm…. Stay safe while you sit on anchor and please, when the weather is good, return and take in the pleasures of Coffs Harbour and the Coffs Coast.

Oh and by the way, please give me a call so I may offer a little bit of local hospitality......

I am hoping Masteka 2 is not in the middle of a private charter for a limited number of nights.  Or the possibility of heading towards a Tropical Resort for someone's honeymoon adventure.
