Close Encounters.

Well I had no intention of posting anything about the second day of racing with the Offshore Superboat Championship at Coffs Harbour (today) but what the heck....

I just love the power of these high speed offshore racing boats and the skill of the crews who pilot them.

If anything goes wrong there is only a very small part of a moment to react. Take a look at the
situation boat Zhik 222 got into.... this has got to be one of those "oh shit" moments. To top it off boat Maritimo 11 was close enough to be half buried by Zhik's wash

.

Both boats retired from the race because of this incident.

Just a couple of other images of the final heat for day two. Please enjoy and remember to tell your friends about how great Coffs Harbour really is.

Coming in from the open ocean waters to the sheltered waters of the 'outer' harbour.

The difference in size and speed between the class categories of the race boats.

I guess you could leave a comment if you like or better still come and buy my house and live here like I do.

Offshore Superboat Championships in Coffs Harbour 2015

Saturday 15 August 2015 Coffs Harbour Offshore Superboat Shootout

It is Saturday 15 August and the start of the weekend for round 4 of the Australian Offshore Superboats Championship where the boats compete at speeds in excess of 200 kph over a course that takes in both the sheltered waters of the 'outer harbour' and the adjacent ocean waters.

Team Navy promo people winning new friends.

The Dry Pit for the up close and personal contact for fans.

A growing number of spectators gathered in the dry pit area as the boats were lifted by crane from their trailer cradles to the waters of the International Marina for engine checks and preparations for the afternoon's Shoot Out round prior to tomorrow's round 4 Championship heats.

Coffs Harbour has hosted a round of the annual championship for the previous 2 years and is earmarked to continue to host a round of the "Offshore Superboats" for the next couple of years.

The crews say that Coffs Harbour offers some of the best water conditions for their high speed racing and they are always keen to be here. A rumor is gathering strength that one of the teams may actually be looking at establishing a base operation here in Coffs. It is suggested the team could be looking at Coffs Harbour as an operations base because of its strategic location and good access to rail and air transport.

Today the ocean conditions were relatively calm encouraging the Superboat crews to push their boats across the swell at a good speed and we witnessed some extreme 'air' as the boats launched themselves of the top off the very small swell.

Tomorrow, Sunday 16 August, with only two more rounds after this weekend we will see the teams stretch the capacity of their powerful crafts close to their limits as they fight for points and placings in the championship.

I hope to see you tomorrow for the 'battle of the fastest' of this spectacular event.

Next month we (Coffs Harbour) will be hosting round 10 of the World Rally Championship from 11 Sept to 13 Sept.

Sunday is Market Day in Coffs Harbour

After almost a week of strong to gale force winds and just a little rain the weather is returning to what we expect for Spring here on the Coffs Coast. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid 20's for most of the coming week.

Image from BOM radar web site at 0830 hrs today.

This morning we have a gentle breeze and clear skies with a rising morning temperature.

Today is Sunday and that means Market Day at the Jetty Harbourside Markets. But it was also a day to enjoy the last of the "Buskers Festival".

The fresh fruit and veggies look so good after the refreshing rain they have received and everyone is in a happy, chatty mood.

Or how about a walk up and over Mutton Bird Island and see if you can spot a whale or two.

Today was a great place for the "Surfers" amongst us.  There were more than a few good waves to ride.

Wow Coffs is such a great place to live.

Come and visit Coffs Harbour and see for yourself just how special this place is. Make contact with me for a no obligation and no suggestion view of Coffs Harbour.

Catch up soon.
